Bai Hora pah - Sweet Thai basilThis type of basil is called Bai-Hora-Pah (often called  Sweet Thai basil in Asian markets) It has an aniseed-like flavour .Hora-pah is an annual herbaceous plant. Fresh leaves are narrower and often tinged with reddish purple. In Thailand fresh Horapah leaves are either eaten raw or used as a flavouring, and used in most of Thai curries. It releases its aroma and flavour only when cooked and is used with fish, beef, chicken and pork. Volatile oil content varies according to different varieties. Therapeutic properties are as carminative, diaphoretic, expectorant, digestant and stomachic agents.
